What is smile eye surgery?

SMILE is a form of refractive surgery in which the refractive errors like (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (age related nearsightedness) and astigmatism (blurred vision in all directions). SMILE stands for small incision lenticule extraction in which a small incision is created in the eye using femtosecond laser and then, with the same laser, a small arc-shaped incision is made in the surface of the cornea. After that the surgeon extracts the lenticule through this incision and discards it. After removing the lenticule, the curvature of the cornea is reshaped to correct the refractive errors. The corneal incision heals within a few days without stitches as it is self-healing, and you get sharper vision.
SMILE eye surgery is more advanced than laser and Lasik surgery. SMILE is newly developed surgery that can be alternate form of Lasik surgery. SMILE eye surgery doesn’t involve any corneal flap. So, there are extremely rare chances of risks or complications. The patients can resume their normal activities from the next day of the SMILE eye surgery.
